Trap Bar

The trap bar is designed for workouts by doing shrugs with heavy weight and deadlifts. This special bar puts our arms at our sides for shrugs instead of in front or behind like a regular barbell. It is one of the better pieces of weight lifting equipment that is available. This is not such a well-known piece of equipment, but it allows you to do several exercises that are great muscle builders. For an example many people use this weight bar for stiff-legged deadlifts because they feel their hamstrings so much better with this kind of equipment in exercise than other versions of the stiff legged deadlift. Many people know this bar as only a barbell that we can do shrugs with or call this equipment a shrug bar but have no idea the variety of exercises that we can do with this bar. A trap bar is simply a weight bar in a hexagonal shape that you can stand inside with parallel handles at your sides. Many people prefer to use this weight bar with the raised handles on the bottom side so the bar and sits lower to the ground for better range of motion on deadlifts and for stiff legged deadlifts also.
Some of the trap bars that we find may not have raised handles. The advantage of the raised handles on the bottom side is that we can get a better depth on our lifts with this equipment. We can also load the bar with smaller weights like 25’s and 10’s if we want an even larger range of motion at the bottom of the exercise. Many people will argue that they can simply use dumbbells at your sides to get the same effect but there is something different about using a shrug bar. It allows us to use much heavier weight, and thus is a better piece of equipment, providing greater versatlity. Sometimes we will feel it’s tough to find large enough dumbbells for shrugs at our side. So we will have to find some HUGE dumbbells to equal the weight that we can load onto a trap bar. One of the best exercises that we can do with this trap bar is a deadlift. It’s a mixture between a barbell squat and a regular barbell deadlift from the floor. Many people with weak legs use this exercise to build strength.
