Dip Bars

Of all the pieces of equipment in the home gym, none is more important than the dip bars that you’ve probably neglected. No, the dip bars aren’t for hanging your sweaty towels on, but are a rather important piece in the overall building of muscle on your body. This often-overlooked piece of equipment can be used to chisel down the chest, arms, shoulder, and back muscles, and can often be the building block to several of the more advanced physical exercises. Dip bars are one of the few machines in the home gym that require the use of a person’s body weight. Although the dip bars are designed to work out the upper body, they are a multi-joint simple machine that can be used to target various muscle groups.
Although home gyms are often cramped for space, the dip bars are one of the most accommodating simple machines in the room. Although there are many variations of dip bars, they are primarily composed of heavy gauge aluminum or steel and are arranged in to two parallel bars, or handles, roughly shoulder width apart. The height is adjustable in order to allow for user height as well as a wide range of incorporation with other exercises. Initial versions of the dip bars in home gyms revolved around the user putting all body weight onto metal projections, which limited movements and muscle isolations. Modern productions of dip bars have become a little more knowledgeable about kinesiology and have begun to include moveable straps, push-up rings, and adjustable bars.
Adjusting the dip bars allows the user to create a more efficient and diverse workout routine. Instead of the normal horizontal position, which can be used to target the muscles of the shoulder, back, and chest, the user can slant the bars slightly down, which will focus the efforts of the workout on the lower pectoral muscle group. In turn, raising bars to a slight incline will allow the user greater stability when working on abdominal exercises such as leg lifts. Perhaps the greatest benefit from the home gym dip bar is the explosion of triceps growth that will occur. To use the dip bars, one raises and lowers one’s body weight, as one’s arms raise from a 90-degree angle to a 180-degree angle (ensuring full extension). Novice users and those unable to lift their body weight in this position can place their feet in front of them on a stool or raised box, which will make lifting their full body weight easier.
All in all, every user of a home gym should have some sort of dip bar assembly. Whether they be attached to the wall, built of aluminum, or built into another machine, dip bars are an essential part of every upper-body workout regimen. The wide variety of exercises, as well as their compact size and ease of use is not only suitable for the professional body builder, but can be invaluable to the novice weight lifter.
